The Wuzhou Elementary School in Shenzhen, China, is a groundbreaking project that challenges traditional educational spaces. It's a bold statement in the heart of a city transforming its economic identity.
Designed by People's Architecture Office and completed in 2025, the school spans an impressive 20,535 square meters. The team, led by He Zhe, James Shen, and Zang Feng, aimed to create an environment that fosters creativity, play, and exploration—a refreshing departure from conventional learning methods.
But here's where it gets intriguing: the school's design is a direct response to Shenzhen's shift from an industrial hub to a center of discovery and innovation. The architects reimagined the role of space in education, creating a learning environment that mirrors the city's evolving identity.
The project team, including Li Zhenghua, Kim Dahyun, Xu Jialing, and others, collaborated with the Shenzhen Futian District Public Works Department, Futong Real Estate, and Shenzhen Mingde Wuzhou Primary School to bring this vision to life. The graphic and signage design was handled by Sure Design, adding a layer of visual appeal.
